Organizational Context
The UNESCO Regional Office for the Caribbean is collaborating with the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) and the World Institute on Disability (WID) to advance disability-inclusive disaster risk management. This initiative aims to strengthen JCPD's leadership and coordination in integrating disability inclusion into Jamaica's disaster risk management system, covering preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience-building efforts across the region.
Job Purpose
The assignment's purpose is to transform a developed Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management (DiDRM) Roadmap into a visually appealing, professional, and accessible publication. This 12-page document will effectively communicate strategic priorities and key messages to a diverse audience, including policymakers, disaster management practitioners, organizations of persons with disabilities, development partners, and community stakeholders. The goal is to enhance the roadmap's usability and impact in guiding disability inclusion within disaster risk management frameworks in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for designing and formatting the 12-page Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management (DiDRM) Roadmap. This includes developing a professional and visually engaging layout consistent with UNESCO branding guidelines, and creating a cohesive visual identity throughout the publication. The volunteer will incorporate text, tables, icons, and graphics to improve the readability and presentation of strategic information, action plans, and implementation frameworks. Ensuring the publication is accessible and user-friendly for diverse audiences is crucial. The role also involves suggesting visual enhancements, such as infographics or illustrations, and revising the design based on feedback from UNESCO and project partners. The final deliverables include editable source files and a print-ready PDF.
Work Experience
Required experience includes graphic design, publication design, editorial layout, or visual communications. Proficiency in design software like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Canva, or Affinity Publisher is necessary. Experience designing reports, strategies, roadmaps, policy documents, or knowledge products is also required. Strong visual communication and information design skills are essential.
