Country Support Communications Officer
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the UN's directing authority for public health, aiming to promote health, ensure global safety, and serve the vulnerable. This assignment is part of a UNV initiative to bring diverse talent from underrepresented countries (Andorra, Croatia, Estonia, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Slovenia) into UN programs, offering hands-on experience with leading UN partners and ensuring global volunteering reflects the world served.
Job Purpose
The UN Volunteer Communications Officer (Country Support) will be part of the Strategic Communications and Advocacy (SCA) unit within WHO/EMRO. The role involves supporting WHO Country Offices (WCOs) in the Eastern Mediterranean Region by developing communication plans and products aligned with the Regional Communications and Advocacy strategy. The officer will enhance WCO communication channels (web, media, social media), improve the quality, visibility, consistency, and branding of communication materials, and contribute to WHO's role as a trusted health authority by sharing evidence-based health information and advocating for WHO's impact.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the development and implementation of country-specific communication plans and standard operating procedures for WHO Country Offices (WCOs) in line with the Regional Communications for Health (C4H) Strategy. This includes identifying communication subjects, providing creative input for C4H products, and developing a calendar of health events. The role involves drafting content for and updating WCO communication channels (media, web, social media) according to WHO guidelines. Additionally, the volunteer will support internal communications, develop communication products for donor advocacy, assist in monitoring and evaluating communication initiatives, and contribute to capacity building for improved communication skills at the country level.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience is required. This includes excellent oral and written communication, drafting, and reporting skills. Experience in producing and editing documents with accuracy and professionalism, working inclusively with diverse partners, adapting to challenging environments, and proficiency in MS Office applications are essential. Practical experience with communication tools and platforms, producing engaging content, and supporting capacity building in social media management is also necessary.

Expertise in art, design, culture, advocacy, public information, and information technology/telecommunications is desirable.
