Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been present in Bolivia since 1974, working to close development gaps and ensure no one is left behind. Aligned with the "Vivir Bien" framework, the UN's Complementarity Framework, and the Sustainable Development Goals, UNDP supports Bolivia's development efforts. The agency strengthens national and subnational capacities, promotes human rights and gender equality, and manages Global Fund resources for TB and HIV programs, aiming for sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development.
Job Purpose
This assignment supports the implementation, adaptation, and strengthening of the Tuberculosis (TB) component of the "Big Cities Strategy" in Bolivia. The role involves analyzing information, identifying gaps, monitoring interventions, and generating evidence for decision-making. Working in coordination with the National Program for Infectious Diseases (PNEI) and subnational actors, the volunteer will contribute to reducing the burden of TB and its social determinants. The objective is to improve the quality of life for affected individuals and the general population through articulated efforts between multisectoral management levels and civil society, respecting human rights.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the National Program for Infectious Diseases, the UN Volunteer will conduct a situational analysis of Tuberculosis (TB) within the Big Cities Strategy. This includes developing regional operational work plans and defining action lines. The volunteer will support the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Big Cities Strategy and Continuous Quality Improvement Cycles, identifying programmatic and operational gaps in urban settings. Responsibilities also involve developing differentiated actions based on urban contexts, monitoring key TB indicators, analyzing data for programmatic decisions, and generating periodic technical reports. The role includes contributing to active detection strategies, improving access to diagnosis and treatment, and supporting targeted actions for vulnerable populations. Coordination with national and subnational health authorities, local actors, and strategic partners is essential, along with systematizing information for continuous improvement and generating technical inputs for planning and evaluation.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of general work experience in health-related fields is required. Specific experience of at least three (3) years in tuberculosis programs or public health programs is essential. Desirable knowledge includes national TB regulations, current health programs, epidemiological surveillance, and health indicator management, as well as experience with drug-resistant TB, adverse drug reactions, and special cases like TB-HIV, diabetes, and childhood TB.
