Job Purpose
This assignment is part of a UNV-funded initiative to integrate diverse talent into UN programs, targeting nationalities currently underrepresented among UN Volunteers. The Project Officer - Civil Engineer will contribute to the Sudan Integrated Social Sector Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project (SISSIRP). The role involves supporting the supervision of construction and rehabilitation works, ensuring compliance with standards and project objectives. The position offers hands-on experience in a leading UN partner organization, contributing to the restoration of essential social infrastructure, including healthcare, education, and WASH facilities, thereby improving the resilience of conflict-affected populations in Sudan.
Responsibilities
The Project Officer - Civil Engineer will support the supervision of construction and rehabilitation works across four states, ensuring compliance with IOM contractual requirements, national standards, and building codes. This includes assisting in the preparation and review of technical designs, drawings, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and reviewing contractor submissions and progress reports. The role involves conducting regular site monitoring visits to track progress, identify issues, and propose corrective actions. The officer will act as a cross-sector coordination focal point for engineering matters, liaising with WASH, health, TVET, and environmental and social teams to resolve site-level issues. Responsibilities also include supporting procurement and contract management for civil works, contributing engineering inputs to donor reporting, and maintaining up-to-date engineering data.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of relevant experience, including supporting design review, BOQ preparation, and technical documentation for construction projects. Experience in site supervision, contractor coordination, progress tracking, and reporting is essential. Proficiency in MS Office and working knowledge of engineering/design software (e.g., AutoCAD) are necessary. Familiarity with humanitarian programming or contract management is desirable.
