Organizational Context

The United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), through its Information Technology Service (ITS) and the India Technology Hub (ITH), supports the UN's ICT strategy. ITH focuses on innovative digital solutions, cybersecurity, and training to meet UNOV/UNODC requirements and serve the wider UN Secretariat. This role contributes to SDG 9 by fostering innovation and developing digital infrastructure.

Job Purpose

This assignment aims to support the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) solutions at the India Technology Hub (ITH) to enhance digital services and promote innovation within the UN system. The volunteer will assist in developing, testing, and improving AI/ML models as ITH expands its AI-enabled applications. Key contributions include data preparation, model evaluation, and technical documentation, fostering collaboration with experienced developers. This role provides practical experience in delivering scalable, sustainable digital solutions that improve organizational efficiency and service delivery, aligning with SDG 9.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will support AI/ML development by assisting in the creation, testing, and refinement of AI/ML models and AI-based feature development. Responsibilities include collecting, cleaning, and preparing data for model training and evaluation. The volunteer will also be responsible for documenting AI models, experiments, and project updates, ensuring technical documentation is maintained. Furthermore, participation in code reviews and team discussions is expected, along with learning AI/ML best practices under senior guidance. Tasks will be assigned based on project priorities, with each volunteer contributing to specific AI/ML components throughout the 12-week assignment.

Work Experience

Prior academic or personal projects in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are considered an asset. Basic knowledge of Python and AI/ML concepts is required, along with a fundamental understanding of data preprocessing and model training. Familiarity with machine learning libraries like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch is advantageous.

Skills
