Job Purpose
This assignment contributes to the Central Asian alliance to end gender-based violence, with the broader objective of strengthening gender equality and inclusive development efforts in the region. The volunteer will achieve this by updating and improving a critical database of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and gender experts. This enhancement will significantly boost the organization’s ability to identify key stakeholders, build strategic partnerships, and support evidence-based programming across Central Asia. The database serves as an essential resource for advancing gender equality, supporting women’s empowerment, and fostering collaboration among civil society actors. It is utilized for stakeholder mapping, outreach, project design, and coordinating activities such as consultations, capacity-building programs, and advocacy campaigns. Maintaining its accuracy and comprehensiveness ensures effective engagement with relevant partners and responsiveness to emerging regional needs and opportunities.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteers will support the review, verification, and updating of a database of civil society organizations (CSOs) and gender experts across Central Asia. Key duties include conducting online research to identify and collect updated information from official websites, professional networks, and public sources, followed by verifying its accuracy. Volunteers will review and update existing database entries, covering organization names, contact details, areas of expertise, geographic coverage, and key activities. They will also identify and add new relevant organizations and gender experts. A critical responsibility is to standardize database entries, ensuring consistency in formatting, terminology, and categorization, such as sectors, thematic focus, and country classification. Volunteers will meticulously review the database for duplicate, outdated, incomplete, or inaccurate information, making necessary corrections. They will identify data gaps, including missing information or underrepresented countries/thematic areas, and recommend additional sources for future inclusion. Finally, volunteers must document all sources used for data collection and verification, along with any assumptions made, and prepare a brief summary of key updates, findings, and recommendations upon assignment completion.
Work Experience
Required experience includes strong research and analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail and data accuracy, and practical experience working with spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets). Familiarity with gender issues, civil society, or development work is considered a valuable asset for this role.
Skills
Essential skills include strong research and analytical capabilities, keen attention to detail and data accuracy, and proficiency in spreadsheet software like Excel and Google Sheets. Good written and spoken communication skills are also required. Fluency in both Kazakh and Russian languages is mandatory for this assignment.
