Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO Chad) provides strategic and operational coordination for the UN System in Chad, facilitating the coherent implementation of the UNSDCF 2022-2026. Chad faces complex humanitarian and development challenges, including 1.2 million refugees/IDPs, chronic food insecurity affecting over 5 million, and persistent climate and security issues. The UN System in Chad comprises about 20 operational entities, mobilizing significant resources for vulnerable populations.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to provide professional graphic design and layout support for key institutional documents of the UN System in Chad. This includes the UN Annual Report for 2025-2026, the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (CCA), the final evaluation report, and the ECHO UN quarterly bulletin. These documents are crucial for institutional communication and accountability, reporting on collective results to partners, donors, national stakeholders, and the public. The role aims to ensure high visual quality, graphic consistency, and editorial rigor, adhering to UN visual standards while reflecting Chad's context, to enhance the credibility and communication impact of the UN's work.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office Communication Officer, the graphic designers will be responsible for: * **Document Layout and Design**: Receiving, analyzing, and integrating textual content, statistical data, photos, and infographics. Designing a complete graphic layout reflecting UN visual identity, subject to supervisor validation. Performing full layout of the annual report, including structure, titles, text, and footnotes, using professional software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Canva Pro). Ensuring graphic consistency across all sections. * **Visual Content Integration**: Integrating visual elements such as field photos, maps, official UN logos, and flags, adhering to usage rights. Designing visually impactful cover, title, section, and introduction pages. Producing thematic icons and pictograms related to SDGs and UN intervention sectors. * **Specialized Document Production**: Laying out the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (CCA), the final evaluation report, and the ECHO UN quarterly bulletin, ensuring adherence to UN graphic standards and producing digital and printable versions. * **Infographics and Data Visualization**: Conceiving clear and impactful infographics to illustrate key data (beneficiary numbers, geographical coverage, impact indicators) and creating data visualization tables (bar charts, pie charts, thematic maps) from raw data. * **Quality Assurance and Coordination**: Producing final digital (interactive PDF) and print (high-resolution PDF) versions. Participating in online coordination meetings, submitting mock-ups for review, integrating corrections within 48 hours, and performing final quality control (spelling, logo consistency, image resolution, pagination). Delivering complete source files and a succinct mission report.
Work Experience
Proven experience in editorial layout for reports, magazines, and institutional publications is required. Candidates should have experience in designing infographics and data visualizations, including charts, tables, and maps. Mastery of export formats for both web (interactive PDF, PNG, JPEG) and print (high-resolution PDF/X, bleed and crop mark management) is essential. The ability to work with and adhere to existing graphic charters is also necessary.
Skills
Required skills include mastery of one or more desktop publishing and graphic design software, with Adobe InDesign being prioritized, alongside Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or Canva Pro. Candidates must demonstrate a keen sense of detail, rigor, and a strong commitment to visual quality. Essential competencies also include autonomy, the ability to manage priorities and meet tight deadlines, excellent written communication, and remote teamwork skills.
