UNRCO
Digital Media and Content Officer
Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) in Lesotho serves as the central coordination hub, aligning UN operations with national development priorities and the 2030 Agenda. Operating under the UNSDCF 2024-2028, it focuses on Inclusive Governance, Sustainable Food Systems, Economic Growth, and Human Development. The UNRCO leads strategic communications, advocacy, and public information for the UN Country Team, enhancing visibility and impact in a fast-evolving digital media environment.
Job Purpose
The UN Secretary-General's vision for a "new generation of UN Country Teams" and the 2019 UN Development System reform aimed to enhance Resident Coordinator Offices' capacities to support countries in achieving the SDGs. This included strengthening RCOs with robust communications capabilities for advocacy, public engagement, and strategic visibility. In Lesotho, the UN operates an integrated communications approach, led by the RCO, to amplify its collective voice and enhance the impact of its programmes. Given the rapidly evolving digital landscape, there's a critical need to strengthen the UN's digital presence and audience engagement through innovative content. This assignment seeks a Digital Media and Content Officer to bolster digital communications, multimedia production, social media engagement, and content development, thereby significantly enhancing the visibility and impact of the United Nations in Lesotho.
Responsibilities
The Digital Media and Content Officer will be responsible for comprehensive digital content creation, including developing engaging content for social media platforms like Facebook, X, and YouTube. This involves creating digital assets for campaigns, international days, events, and advocacy initiatives, as well as designing graphics, posters, banners, infographics, and other digital communication products.
Key duties also encompass multimedia production, such as capturing high-quality photos and videos during UN events, field missions, and engagements. The officer will edit videos, reels, and graphics for digital platforms, support live event coverage through multimedia storytelling, and contribute to drafting social media captions, web stories, and newsletters.
Furthermore, the role involves social media and digital platform management, including monitoring trends, audience engagement, and analytics. The officer will schedule and publish content across digital platforms, track campaign performance, and prepare analytics reports. Administrative and coordination support for communication-related activities with UN agencies and partners, alongside logistical preparations for events, will also be undertaken. The role ensures an Age, Gender, and Diversity perspective is integrated into all activities.
