The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) aims to enhance global peace and security by combating drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism. This position is situated within the Indian Ocean East team of the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) in Male, Maldives, operating under the UNODC Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA). The role reports to the Programme Officer and National Programme Officer of the GMCP Indian Ocean East.
Job Purpose
The Event Coordination and Communications Support Assistant will support the UNODC's Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) in the Maldives. The role involves assisting the GMCP Indian Ocean East team with effective communication and liaison, ensuring information flow to stakeholders through regular updates and reports. The assistant will also provide logistical and technical support for meetings, workshops, and conferences, contribute to written outputs on maritime crime, and assist with administrative processes related to procurement and recruitment. A key aspect of the role is to promote UNODC's visibility and contribute to the programme's objectives in combating maritime crime.
Responsibilities
The Event Coordination and Communications Support Assistant will facilitate effective liaison and communication for the GMCP Indian Ocean East team in Maldives, preparing and disseminating updates, newsletters, reports, and briefs to enhance programme visibility. The role includes contributing to written outputs such as background papers, briefing notes, and analytical reports on maritime crime issues. Support will be provided for research and information gathering on maritime crime impacts in the region. The assistant will offer technical and logistical support for meetings, workshops, and training sessions, including preparing documents and drafting minutes. Coordination for securing nominations for UNODC events and managing participant communication will be a key duty. Additionally, the role involves assisting with technical and logistical aspects of procurement and expert recruitment, including preparing terms of reference and monitoring payments, in compliance with UN financial rules.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, one year of experience in research, communications, or event planning is required. Experience in organizing national events or conferences is desirable. Proficiency in MS Office applications, database management, and office technology is expected. Experience in volunteerism or the Indian Ocean East region is an asset.
