Job Purpose

The UNV Specialist in Integrated Risk Management will provide comprehensive advisory services for disaster risk reduction with an environmental focus and integrated fire management (IFM) for forest fire prevention and management. This role involves facilitating planning, monitoring, and administrative/financial management of UNDP initiatives. The specialist will also offer integral support in drafting strategic documents. The position contributes to the project “Strengthening for crisis response and early recovery in Colombia,” addressing diverse crises stemming from human mobility, armed conflicts, and natural disasters. The aim is to transition from immediate needs to sustainable, long-term development by enhancing institutional and community capacities for effective crisis management.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include strengthening inter-institutional and territorial coordination among cooperation agencies, government institutions, and civil society organizations, and participating in working groups for risk management strategy implementation. The role involves designing and monitoring action plans for UNDP risk management initiatives, preparing technical and progress reports on initiative impact, and supporting the administrative and financial management of UNDP projects, ensuring compliance with procedures. Additionally, the specialist will provide technical advice on risk management and integrated fire management strategies in Colombia, assist state entities and community organizations in designing and implementing initiatives for forest fire reduction and prevention, and support the formulation of technical documents for crisis response and disaster risk reduction projects. Finally, the role includes drafting reports and technical notes, reviewing documents for quality assurance, and systematizing experiences and lessons learned in integrated fire management and disaster risk reduction.

Work Experience

A minimum of 3 years of experience is required in projects related to integrated risk management, environmental management, or forest management. Experience in technical support for processes, projects, and programs for the reduction, management, and prevention of forest fires is essential. Experience in inter-institutional coordination and engagement with governmental and international actors, along with strong skills in technical document writing and information management, is also necessary. Desirable experience includes work on integrated fire management, UN project implementation, and report writing.
