Job Purpose
This role supports the UNDP Egypt Communications Team by monitoring and analyzing media coverage and online discussions. The objective is to track public visibility, understand emerging narratives, identify misinformation, and flag potential reputational issues. The Online Volunteer will contribute to strengthening UNDP Egypt's ability to manage its public image, respond effectively to inaccurate information, and ensure timely, evidence-based communications. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate public information and supporting the strategic positioning of UNDP's development efforts in Egypt.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will support the UNDP Egypt Communications Team by monitoring media coverage, online news, and public conversations related to UNDP Egypt's programmes, partners, and areas of work. Key duties include monitoring Arabic and English language news outlets, digital media, and social media for mentions of UNDP Egypt, its management, projects, and priorities. The volunteer will identify positive coverage, emerging narratives, misinformation, and reputational risks. Responsibilities also involve preparing concise news coverage reports with links and clippings, and compiling weekly and monthly analytical reports. All work will be reviewed by the Communications Team, contributing to enhanced public visibility and informed communications strategies.
Work Experience
Demonstrated interest or experience in media monitoring, communications, journalism, public relations, digital media, or research is required. Familiarity with Egyptian, regional, and international news platforms and social media channels is important. Previous experience in communications, media monitoring, journalism, public relations, or development is considered an asset.
Skills
Strong Arabic and English writing, reading, and analytical skills are essential. The ability to identify relevant media narratives, distinguish factual reporting from misinformation, and flag sensitive content is crucial. Strong research, organization, and attention to detail are required. Proficiency in summarizing information clearly and concisely, using online search tools, social media platforms, spreadsheets, and basic reporting formats is necessary. The ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality is also important.
