Organizational Context
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the UN agency for sexual and reproductive health, dedicated to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Benin, UNFPA partners with Luxembourg to empower youth, enhancing access to sexual and reproductive health and rights. This project, running from 2023 to 2026, focuses on vulnerable adolescents and women, aiming to transform youth into agents of social and economic change by building their resilience and autonomy.
Job Purpose
The National UN Volunteer Youth Mobilization and Engagement Officer will support the implementation of a youth empowerment project in Benin, focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights. Working within the Health pillar, under the guidance of the Team Lead and direct supervision of the ESS Project Coordinator, the volunteer will play a crucial role in engaging young people. The assignment aims to mobilize communities, particularly girls and boys, facilitate awareness sessions, and support the design and execution of activities to empower youth. This includes developing communication materials, leveraging digital platforms for behavior change, and fostering youth networks to promote gender equality and combat gender-based violence, ultimately contributing to stronger, more resilient communities.
Responsibilities
The National UN Volunteer Youth Mobilization and Engagement Officer will be responsible for mapping youth activist associations and networks within their department. They will support community mobilization efforts, especially for girls and boys, throughout the project's implementation. Key duties include participating in project activities, facilitating awareness-raising sessions for youth, and designing and implementing monthly engagement activities for the youth network focused on gender equality. The role also involves supporting communication campaigns, both digital and traditional, for statutory days and promoting behavior change. This includes developing and adapting communication materials for adolescent protection, assisting youth in creating content for platforms addressing gender-based violence, and managing social media for the youth champions network. The volunteer will also support advocacy activities on gender equality and gender-based violence and undertake other relevant tasks assigned by the office.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, with a demonstrated interest or experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender equality, and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Strong experience as an active member of a youth network or organization with proven youth mobilization potential is essential. Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media) are necessary. Familiarity with local languages is an asset.

Expertise in social work, community development, and communication is also required.
