Job Purpose
This National UN Volunteer position in Tahoua, Niger, aims to bolster UNICEF's efforts in strengthening local governance and resource mobilization for children's rights. The role supports regional and communal authorities in enhancing public finance management for children, promoting inclusive local development policies, and building resilience against crises. The incumbent will contribute to evidence generation for advocacy, support participatory planning and budgeting, and foster youth engagement in local governance, ultimately increasing sustainable investments in child-focused social services.
Responsibilities
The National UN Volunteer will support regional sector directorates and communes in strengthening local governance and internal resource mobilization to increase sustainable investments for children's rights. Key duties include providing technical support for decentralized public finance for children, contributing to public expenditure reviews, and participating in advocacy for increased fiscal allocations. The role involves advocating for policies that reduce child multidimensional poverty and enhance resilience, supporting local programming based on risk assessment and social cohesion, and strengthening communal capacities for shock preparedness. Additionally, the volunteer will promote youth engagement in local governance and social accountability, support the implementation of the national social protection policy, and assist in programs for the economic empowerment of vulnerable women and girls, including inclusive social safety nets for persons with disabilities.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience is required in areas such as governance/decentralization, local development, project management, or planning and evaluation. Familiarity with IT tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, is necessary. Strong writing skills are also essential.
