Job Purpose
The UN RCO seeks five Online Volunteers to support daily news monitoring, collection, summarization, and translation of articles from reputable sources. This role is crucial for understanding public perception of the UN, identifying potential risks and opportunities, and informing strategic decision-making. By contributing to these activities, volunteers will help strengthen the UN's position as a key partner in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in Suriname. Successful completion will be recognized with feedback, a certificate of appreciation, and credit for their contribution.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteers will support the UN RCO with daily news monitoring, collection, summarization, and translation of articles from reputable sources. Key duties include:
1. Monitoring: Daily tracking and gathering of relevant news reports from designated local, regional, and international sources.
2. Translation: Accurately translating news articles from Dutch to English, preserving original context and meaning.
3. Summarizing: Providing clear and concise summaries of news reports, highlighting key developments.
4. Collaboration: Coordinating with team members to ensure comprehensive coverage and avoid duplication of efforts.
5. Reporting: Submitting daily reports by 1:00 PM (Suriname time) to the designated focal point.
These tasks are essential for understanding perceptions of the UN, identifying risks and opportunities, and informing decision-making to strengthen the UN's role in advancing Sustainable Development Goals in Suriname.
Work Experience
At least one year of relevant experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing, or a related field is required. Previous experience in copy-editing, proofreading, or translation is considered an asset, demonstrating practical application of necessary skills.
Skills
Required skills include research, summarizing, and monitoring. Proficiency in translating content from Dutch to English accurately is essential. Strong attention to detail is crucial for ensuring high-quality translations and summaries. Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Google Docs, is necessary. The ability to meet deadlines is also important.
