Chargé(e) de communication multimédia
Organizational Context
UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, operates in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a region facing recurrent Ebola outbreaks. The Ituri province, particularly Bunia and surrounding health zones, is identified as high-risk due to population mobility, community resistance, and a fragile health system. Effective, culturally adapted communication is crucial for informing the public, combating misinformation, and promoting life-saving behaviors amidst security challenges and community mistrust.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF's critical communication efforts in the DRC, specifically in Bunia, to bolster the Ebola response. The assignment aims to enhance the production and dissemination of high-quality multimedia content in a timely manner. The objective is to increase public visibility, raise awareness, and build trust in the Ebola response mechanisms. By producing engaging and culturally appropriate content, the role will contribute to risk communication, community engagement, and advocacy, ultimately protecting vulnerable populations, especially children, and ensuring the effective implementation of priority interventions in affected areas.
Responsibilities
The Multimedia Communication Officer will be responsible for developing and producing high-quality multimedia content (videos, photos, audio, infographics, digital content) to support the Ebola response in Bunia. This includes collecting field content from affected communities and treatment centers, creating human interest stories and testimonials to highlight intervention impact, and developing communication materials on Ebola prevention and vaccination. The role involves translating public health information into accessible formats, ensuring cultural appropriateness and local language availability, and contributing regularly to digital platforms. Additionally, the officer will manage media relations, disseminate accurate information, organize media briefings, and promote responsible media coverage. Monitoring traditional and social media for Ebola-related narratives, identifying rumors and misinformation, and contributing to alert reports are key. The position also requires tracking communication product performance, gathering community feedback, contributing to reporting, and participating in lessons learned capitalization.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in communication or multimedia production is required, with demonstrated experience in creating digital content (photo, video, social media). Experience in a humanitarian or emergency context, particularly related to Ebola or public health, is highly desirable. Experience in media relations is also preferred. Strong IT skills, including MS Office and database management, are necessary.
Skills
Key skills include professionalism, strong oral and written communication, excellent writing, reporting, and editing abilities. Interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners are essential. Proficiency in planning, organization, problem-solving, and meeting deadlines is required. Adaptability to demanding environments, effective teamwork in multicultural settings, and a commitment to continuous learning are important. Familiarity with communication for development tools and approaches, as well as expertise in communication and information technology, are valued.
