Project Assistant
Organizational Context
UN Women is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, working to eliminate discrimination and achieve equality between men and women. The Cluster Office for Tunisia and Libya, established in 2019, focuses on women's participation in governance, economic empowerment, gender-based violence elimination, and women's roles in peace and security. This assignment is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland to strengthen youth inclusion, particularly for young persons with disabilities.
Job Purpose
The Project Assistant will provide crucial support to UN Women's programme implementation, administrative follow-up, and coordination of activities in Tunisia. This role involves assisting with programme planning, monitoring, and reporting, as well as managing administrative and financial tasks. The incumbent will also support the organization of meetings, events, and field missions, and contribute to communication and knowledge management efforts. The assignment aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of UN Women's work in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment within the region, with a specific focus on youth inclusion.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will support programme implementation and administrative follow-up under the supervision of the Head of Programmes. Key responsibilities include assisting in programme planning, updating work plans, and collecting information for budgets and proposals. The role involves preparing administrative documents, monitoring programme activities, and compiling information for progress reports. Administrative and financial support includes updating project information systems, monitoring expenditures, verifying financial data, and preparing purchase requests. The assistant will also help organize meetings, workshops, and field missions, prepare briefing materials, and support travel-related administrative procedures. Furthermore, the role entails monitoring partner-implemented activities, coordinating with partners, and supporting data collection for results monitoring. Finally, the assistant will contribute to preparing communication materials, documenting activities and best practices, and supporting knowledge management initiatives.
Work Experience
A minimum of one month to one year of relevant work experience in administrative, financial, or programme management/support is required. Experience with multiple office software packages is essential. Experience with ERP systems, particularly Oracle, is desirable.
Skills
Strong organizational, planning, and reporting skills are essential. The role requires good written and verbal communication abilities, proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel), and the capacity to handle procurement, budgeting, and financial tracking. Knowledge of programme support principles is necessary.
