Job Purpose
This role serves as a global advocate for gender equality and women's empowerment, contributing to UN Women's ambitious agenda as a center of excellence. The position supports the implementation of programs focused on youth and adolescents, aligning with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The incumbent will engage civil society organizations, build partnerships with women's and youth-led organizations, and facilitate the participation of young people in multistakeholder and intergovernmental processes. The aim is to strengthen networks, promote knowledge sharing, and ensure the effective integration of young people in achieving UN Women's strategic goals and mandate.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support outreach to youth and adolescent constituencies, and contribute to the technical implementation of youth programs, including the development of knowledge products. Responsibilities include supporting strategies for the integrated participation of young people in multistakeholder and intergovernmental processes, and organizing preparatory meetings with girl-led groups. The role involves strengthening networks and knowledge sharing among young people, and assisting in the development of briefing notes and safeguarding plans for youth and adolescents. Additionally, the volunteer will promote volunteerism, contribute to UNV publications, assist new volunteers, and encourage the use of online volunteering services. Expected outputs include event talking points, meeting notes, a youth newsletter, and outcome documents from events.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required, specifically in research and civil society engagement with a focus on young people. Experience in understanding gender equality, women's empowerment, and child protection issues is beneficial. Familiarity with youth and girl-led organizations and international institutions is desirable. Previous experience working or interning within the UN system is considered an asset.
