Organizational Context
UNFPA strategically supports Burkina Faso's government in implementing the ICPD Programme of Action and SDGs. Its mission focuses on universal access to quality sexual and reproductive health, women/girls' empowerment, fostering youth potential for employment, and ensuring reliable data for development. UNFPA is implementing the "Catalyzing Young Human Capital" initiative in the Guiriko region, targeting young women and men to enhance their employability, socio-economic integration, and social cohesion within communities. This aligns with national development plans and SDGs 3, 5, 8, and 16.
Job Purpose
The UNV National Community Volunteer Coordinator will support UNFPA's "Catalyzing Young Human Capital" initiative in Burkina Faso's Guiriko region. This initiative aims to strengthen the employability, socio-economic integration, and social cohesion of young women and men in Bama, Karangasso Vigué, and Karangasso Sambla. By facilitating structured volunteering opportunities aligned with national priorities like the Carrefour d’Opportunités (CarrOpps) program, the role contributes to sustainable youth integration into the job market and addresses local development needs. The coordinator will mobilize engaged youth as UN Volunteers to produce measurable and lasting community-level results, serving as a rapid, scalable, and structuring operational mechanism for UNFPA in line with the national development plan and SDGs 3, 5, 8, and 16.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the UNFPA Programme Officer in Burkina Faso, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Coordinate and provide necessary assistance to UN Community Volunteers in the field.
• Ensure timely reporting of field activities.
• Support the planning and implementation of youth entrepreneurship activities, including task reporting, calls for equipment applications, dialogue with institutional partners, training, incubation, competitions, forums, and workshops.
• Participate in monitoring projects promoting youth entrepreneurship and employability.
• Contribute to the digitalization of processes, collecting, analyzing, and consolidating data on beneficiaries and intervention results for monitoring and sustainability.
• Assist with communication management and regular dissemination of information/messages on opportunities to beneficiaries via various channels (social networks, digital platforms).
• Participate in drafting technical reports, concept notes, briefs, and capitalization documents.
• Support the logistical organization of project activities, including workshops, meetings, and field missions.
• Participate in field monitoring missions as needed.
• Support the management and archiving of physical and electronic project documents.
• Conduct documentary research on entrepreneurship, youth policies, and support mechanisms for SMEs/Startups.
• Perform any other tasks required by the supervisor.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required in project/program management, including supervising collaborators at the community level. Experience in monitoring community-based activities and/or volunteers is considered an asset.
Skills
Required competencies include responsibility, adaptability, flexibility, creativity, sound judgment and decision-making, planning and organization, and professionalism. Technical skills encompass data management and analysis, strong proficiency in IT, word processing software, and social media. Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Forms), managing and archiving physical and electronic project documents, and social media communication are desirable assets. Areas of expertise include community development, communication, and volunteer management.
