Organizational Context
The UNV Regional Office for Southern Africa (OHCHR ROSA) aims to strengthen its communications and advocacy efforts to support its annual and strategic workplans. This role focuses on enhancing organizational effectiveness by ensuring cohesive and impactful messaging across various platforms. The volunteer will gain practical experience in UN communications and improve collaboration skills within the office, contributing to the achievement of peace, justice, and strong institutions.
Job Purpose
The Online Volunteer will support the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa in its communication and advocacy initiatives, contributing to the fulfillment of its workplan and strategic objectives. Working closely with the Public Information Officer, the volunteer will help develop and disseminate cohesive and effective messaging across all communication channels. This assignment provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in internal and external communications within a UN agency, enhance collaboration skills, and contribute to the office's outreach efforts. The volunteer will play a key role in co-creating, drafting, and reviewing communication content and strategies for various events and campaigns.
Responsibilities
Co-develop, draft, and review communication content and strategies, including concepts and key messages for campaigns. Create human interest and impact articles, remarks, and opinion pieces for internal and external publications such as the OHCHR Website, Intranet, UNCT newsletters, and social media platforms. Assist in preparing content for podcasts. Review and sub-edit reports, policy briefs, and related documents to ensure alignment and consistency with the OHCHR style guide. Support the Public Information Officer in executing communication and advocacy plans for events and projects.
Work Experience
Requires at least five years of relevant professional experience in multi-media and communication. A strong background in utilizing media and communication tools, and experience in developing communication materials is advantageous. Applicants must possess their own access to necessary multimedia creation tools.
Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to work independently while possessing strong interpersonal skills. Proven ability to produce accurate, concise work within set deadlines. Fluent in English.
