Organizational Context

The UNV Online Volunteer will support the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa (ROSA) in achieving its annual and strategic work plans, focusing on enhancing communications and advocacy. The role is crucial for creating compelling visual assets to promote the office's work. The volunteer will collaborate with the Public Information Officer to ensure consistent messaging across platforms and gain practical experience in UN communications.

Job Purpose

This assignment aims to strengthen OHCHR ROSA's organizational effectiveness through improved communications and advocacy. The Online Volunteer will produce impactful visual content, including videos, animations, and graphic designs, to amplify the office's achievements and ongoing initiatives. By working closely with the Public Information Officer and pillar leads, the volunteer will contribute to cohesive messaging across various platforms, including social media, websites, and publications. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in internal and external communications within a UN agency and enhance collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Public Information Officer and in collaboration with pillar leads, the Online Volunteer will produce and design visual communication assets. This includes creating layouts for reports, social media content, brochures, newsletters, explainers, and factsheets that highlight OHCHR ROSA's achievements. Key tasks involve developing draft designs based on requirements, refining them according to feedback, and assisting in the creation of social media messaging. The volunteer will adhere to the OHCHR design style guide and may have opportunities to connect with the Communications team, learning how graphic design enhances visibility.

Work Experience

Professional experience in graphic design is required, with a specific emphasis on designing document layouts. Experience in video editing and motion graphics animation is considered an asset. At least two years of relevant professional experience in multi-media and communication is desirable, as is a strong background in media and communications tools, particularly for communication campaigns.

Skills

Proficiency in graphic design applications is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines are important. Proficiency in design software and social media platforms is preferred. The ability to work independently while possessing strong interpersonal skills is also valued.
