Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Lebanon supports the Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator to ensure a coherent and effective humanitarian response. OCHA Lebanon focuses on enhancing coordination, responding to crises, strengthening situational awareness, mobilizing funding, and advocating for humanitarian access. The operating environment is highly volatile due to ongoing hostilities, leading to civilian casualties, displacement, and destruction of infrastructure, with significant humanitarian needs across multiple sectors and funding shortfalls impacting aid delivery.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Access and Civil-Military Coordination Unit in Beirut to facilitate humanitarian operations across Lebanon. The incumbent will provide technical support to the Humanitarian Notification System (HNS) project team, contributing to the effective delivery of aid in a challenging and volatile context. The position is crucial for enhancing coordination, improving situational awareness, and ensuring humanitarian access, particularly in conflict-affected areas. The assignment aims to strengthen the unit's capacity to manage access constraints and support the overall humanitarian response in Lebanon.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support HNS-related tasks, including processing sites and humanitarian movements, tracking movements, and following up with humanitarian partners. Responsibilities include maintaining and analyzing an up-to-date database of stakeholders and access impediments. The role involves assisting in organizing workshops, events, and training sessions on access and Civil-Military Coordination (CMCoord). Additionally, the volunteer will maintain contact lists, information products, and maps to enhance communication and information sharing. The position requires assisting in the development of access and CMCoord reports and products, ensuring regular updates and analysis of HNS-related access trends, and performing other duties as requested.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressive experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, or a related area is required. At least two years within the last three years must involve working with or coordinating with humanitarian or development partners. Experience with a UN agency, international organization, or NGO is also required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is desirable, as are strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
