Job Purpose
This role supports UNDP Nepal's "Advancing Civic Engagement for Democratic Participation" project, focusing on strengthening inclusive governance. The incumbent will empower youth, especially marginalized groups and young women, to become informed and engaged citizens. The purpose is to bridge the gap between youth and governance by fostering political literacy, digital literacy, and critical engagement with information. The goal is to ensure youth voices are reflected in transparent and responsive governance processes, leading to increased youth leadership and influence in governance reforms within safer civic spaces.
Responsibilities
The National UN Volunteer will support youth-focused civic engagement initiatives, including event preparation, monitoring, and community-level liaison. Key responsibilities include mapping youth organizations, establishing partnerships, and providing technical support to youth groups. The role involves organizing forums for youth interaction with leaders and stakeholders, ensuring diverse representation, and facilitating youth participation in various events. Additionally, the volunteer will act as a liaison between youth and government institutions, advocate for youth-centered approaches, and support report development. Operational support includes documenting meetings, organizing events, and managing travel arrangements. The role also emphasizes field coordination, gathering feedback from youth beneficiaries, documenting success stories, and addressing Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) issues.
Work Experience
No prior experience is strictly required, but two years of relevant experience is desirable. This includes demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 1 year) in youth engagement, gender equality and social inclusion (GESI), disability inclusion, and 'leave no one behind' principles. Proficiency in computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team are essential.
