Job Purpose
UNICEF Benin seeks a Field Communication Officer to enhance visibility in Northern Benin, document program results, support advocacy efforts, and contribute to donor and partner content requests. The role is crucial for showcasing program achievements, illustrating the realities faced by children and communities, and bolstering the country office's institutional communication. The incumbent will join a dynamic team in Natitingou, contributing to the UNICEF-Government cooperation program by producing high-quality field content that highlights successes and supports communication objectives. This position is vital for demonstrating impact and mobilizing support for children's rights.
Responsibilities
The Field Communication Officer will collect field content and human interest stories by identifying compelling narratives, results, and local initiatives in collaboration with program colleagues and zone offices. This involves conducting field missions to gather interviews, photos, and videos, and writing human interest stories, portraits, and activity summaries. The role includes prospecting communication topics aligned with program priorities, advocacy needs, and donor expectations, and preparing proposals with key messages and recommended formats. The officer will adapt collected content for various platforms, including internal briefs, social media, and web pages. Additionally, they will support the visibility of zone offices by covering field activities and events, providing readily usable content like photos and brief reports. The position also involves proposing innovative formats such as audio testimonials and short video capsules, and ensuring community voices, especially those of adolescents and youth, are featured. Finally, the officer will manage content, ensuring proper archiving, compliance with UNICEF editorial standards, child protection policies, and ethical guidelines regarding consent and image rights.
Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in communication, journalism, content production, field documentation, or media animation. Experience in collecting testimonials, writing field narratives, and producing content for various media is required. Functional proficiency in photography and video, including smartphone use, is necessary. Experience with UNICEF, international organizations, NGOs, or local media is an asset. Knowledge of human rights-based approaches, gender sensitivity, and donor communication requirements is beneficial. Familiarity with local languages in Northern Benin is also an asset.
