Job Purpose
This Online Volunteering assignment aims to support the editing of UNICRI publications, research outputs, policy papers, and presentations. The role contributes to UNICRI’s efforts to generate, disseminate, and promote knowledge on crime prevention, criminal justice, and emerging security challenges. Publications may cover topics such as organized crime, illicit trafficking, preventing violent extremism, cybersecurity, and community resilience. Through these knowledge products, UNICRI seeks to enhance understanding of complex crime and security issues, facilitate knowledge-sharing among practitioners and policymakers, and raise awareness of effective prevention and response strategies, thereby supporting the quality and accessibility of the Institute’s outputs.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteers will provide editing and proofreading support for English-language research reports, policy papers, presentations, and other knowledge products (approximately 50 pages) related to crime prevention, security, and criminal justice. This involves ensuring clarity, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to United Nations editorial standards. Key duties include editing and proofreading documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting. Volunteers will enhance readability, logical flow, clarity, and consistency of terminology, references, and style. They will also review content for coherence, accuracy, and alignment with UN editorial standards, and liaise with authors to clarify ambiguities and address editorial issues.
Work Experience
At least 5-7 years of professional experience in editing and proofreading publications, reports, research papers, and other communication materials is required. Demonstrated experience in editing complex research, policy, and technical documents is essential. Familiarity with United Nations editorial guidelines, style standards, and publication processes is desirable.
Skills
Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Key skills include excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to high editorial standards. Familiarity with United Nations editorial guidelines, style standards, and publication processes is desirable.
