UNV
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO), founded in 1948, is the UN agency dedicated to promoting health, ensuring global safety, and serving vulnerable populations. Its mandate includes advocating for universal health coverage, monitoring public health risks, coordinating emergency responses, and providing technical assistance to countries. In Uganda, WHO is collaborating with UNV to launch a digital campaign to strengthen Ebola preparedness and response through effective risk communication and community engagement, leveraging online volunteers to amplify health messages and counter misinformation.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to support WHO Uganda's communication team in designing and implementing a dynamic, evidence-based digital awareness campaign focused on Ebola prevention and response. The initiative seeks to leverage the creativity and reach of online volunteers to disseminate accurate public health information, promote preventive behaviours, and combat misinformation across digital platforms. The campaign's ultimate goals are to increase public awareness of Ebola risks, encourage timely health-seeking, enhance community engagement through digital channels, strengthen national preparedness, improve public knowledge, boost WHO Uganda's digital outreach, and foster trust in health systems.
Responsibilities
Online volunteers will develop creative and culturally appropriate digital content, including graphics, short videos, and infographics, adapting technical public health information into accessible messages for diverse audiences across platforms like Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, WhatsApp, and TikTok. They will disseminate approved awareness messages, engage with audiences by responding to comments and questions, and promote campaign hashtags. Volunteers will also monitor and report misinformation and rumours related to Ebola, supporting the development of corrective messaging. Additionally, they will participate in coordination meetings, contribute innovative ideas for content reach, support real-time communication during outbreak updates, and track engagement metrics, providing feedback on community perceptions.
Work Experience
Experience in social media management, content creation, or digital marketing is required. Experience in public health communication or community engagement is considered an advantage. The ability to work independently and meet deadlines is also essential for this role.
Skills
Strong written and visual communication skills are essential. Candidates should possess creativity, the ability to simplify technical information, and digital literacy with familiarity with social media tools.
