Data and Georeferencing Associate
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Guatemala manages a diverse project portfolio, emphasizing the growing importance of territorial intelligence and geospatial analysis for strategic decision-making. The Strategic Support Unit (UAE) leads planning, monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management. To enhance evidence-based management and territorial analysis, the office aims to improve the use of georeferenced data, analytics, and visualization tools for monitoring programmatic interventions and results across Guatemala.
Job Purpose
The UN Volunteer Data and Georeferencing Associate will strengthen strategic monitoring and territorial analysis capacities within UNDP Guatemala. This role involves supporting the consolidation, analysis, and visualization of programmatic and partnership information, with a specific focus on territorial data and geospatial analysis. The associate will contribute to developing integrated territorial information systems and producing strategic evidence and visual tools. These tools will enable the Country Office to better understand project implementation locations, development results at the territorial level, stakeholder presence, and the contribution of interventions to national and local priorities, ultimately fostering institutional learning and data-informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
The Data and Georeferencing Associate will manage and analyze data by consolidating, cleaning, and organizing programmatic information, integrating data from various projects and systems, and producing analytical summaries for strategic decision-making. Responsibilities include contributing to monitoring reports and management dashboards. In georeferencing and territorial analysis, the associate will develop and maintain georeferenced databases for UNDP interventions, produce thematic maps and visualization products, and support territorial analysis of programmatic coverage and development trends. The role also involves mapping partnerships and stakeholders. For data visualization, the associate will assist in designing dashboards and visual tools for reporting, develop data visualization products for diverse audiences, and contribute to presentations and analytical briefs. Additionally, the associate will support knowledge management by documenting methodologies, promoting data quality best practices, and contributing to institutional learning. A small portion of the role involves supporting the UN Volunteer Programme and promoting volunteerism.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, though demonstrated interest or up to two years of experience in relevant fields is beneficial. Essential technical skills include basic knowledge of GIS software (QGIS/ArcGIS), data visualization tools (Power BI/Tableau), proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data management, and analytical abilities. Strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are crucial. Familiarity with sustainable development concepts or SDG indicators is desirable.
