Associate Knowledge Management Officer
Organizational Context
UN-Habitat, the UN agency for human settlements, promotes sustainable urban development and adequate shelter for all. It coordinates UN system activities in human settlements and collaborates with governments and partners to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 11. The agency focuses on making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, and monitors the New Urban Agenda. UN-Habitat actively produces knowledge products to support these efforts.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Partnership Implementing the New Urban Agenda (PINUA) project in Kenya, a joint initiative between UN-Habitat and the Kenyan Government, funded by the EU. The project aims to develop models for affordable housing. The Associate Knowledge Management Officer will manage the diverse data and information generated by PINUA, including housing analytics, financial models, and community strategies. The purpose is to ensure this information is effectively organized, documented, and utilized by various stakeholders, including government, civil society, and development partners, to enhance the project's impact and contribute to sustainable urban development goals.
Responsibilities
The Associate Knowledge Management Officer will support data consolidation and documentation within the Kenya Country Office, collecting and organizing information from housing specialists, and ensuring alignment with the Government of Kenya’s Affordable Housing Programme and UN-Habitat project data. Responsibilities include developing knowledge products such as reports, presentations, and manuals, adapting KM tools for knowledge sharing, and creating an Affordable Housing Knowledge Catalogue. The role involves participating in the development of a comprehensive Knowledge Management and Dissemination Strategy, proposing tools and platforms for knowledge repositories, and supporting the integration of AI-assisted tools. Additionally, the officer will provide feedback on collaboration and networking, facilitate stakeholder engagement, track best practices, and offer strategic communication expertise.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required, but demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in analytical skills for KM products, strong written and verbal communication, collaborative interpersonal skills, and proficiency in KM tools and technologies are advantageous. Experience with knowledge management systems (e.g., SharePoint, MS Teams) and information/data management (organizing reports, databases, metadata) is a plus. Previous volunteer experience or cross-cultural experience is highly regarded.
