Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF Togo in improving children's development environments through the construction and rehabilitation of social infrastructure. The National UN Volunteer Construction Specialist will assist in preparing, technically monitoring, and quality controlling construction projects, ensuring compliance with standards and effective risk management. The position requires close coordination with design offices, implementing companies, and government partners to ensure projects meet technical specifications and timelines, contributing to UNICEF's commitment to child rights and well-being.
Responsibilities
The Construction Specialist will be responsible for preparing construction documentation, managing work quality, and communicating with local stakeholders. This includes providing technical data for tender documents, overseeing construction work, and collaborating with technical study offices and beneficiary ministries to ensure quality control. The role involves managing construction contracts, supervising implementing company engineers, and conducting site visits to monitor progress and quality. Key duties include developing monitoring processes, tracking contract execution, and facilitating information flow between sites, ministries, and UNICEF. Specific tasks involve supporting the creation of construction plans and cost estimates, verifying execution plans, informing stakeholders of site-specific issues, managing work plans and risks, ensuring adherence to schedules, and overseeing quality control of materials and workmanship. The volunteer will also prepare activity reports and participate in technical receptions of works.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required. This should include experience in supervising infrastructure construction projects, reconstruction, logistical planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation. Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, Archicad, and Microsoft Project is also beneficial.
