Job Purpose
The IT Assistant (Roving) will support the WFP's operations by ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of computer and communication systems and equipment. This role involves maintaining IT infrastructure, responding to user queries, and assisting with user training to ensure staff can utilize technology effectively. The position contributes to the overall delivery of WFP's services by maintaining operational IT systems, managing technological assets, and supporting emergency response efforts, ultimately ensuring reliable IT support for all WFP personnel.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the IT Operations Officer, the volunteer will maintain computer and communication systems and equipment, including diagnostics and optimization. Responsibilities include the maintenance, repair, configuration, and storage of IT hardware and telecommunications equipment, adhering to data protection and access control policies. The role involves updating the asset control system, tracking equipment allocation and de-allocation, and responding to assigned tasks within agreed standards and deadlines. The IT Assistant will also provide first and second-level technical support, assist in training end-users on technology and systems, and support the installation and testing of hardware and software. Additionally, the volunteer will help install and maintain telecommunication systems, support the development of standard materials like training documentation, and suggest process improvements for IT services. Adherence to emergency response procedures is also required.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of professional work experience in computer and printing equipment maintenance, installation and maintenance of structured cabling, Ethernet and WiFi networks, Access Points, Fortigate, and Cisco. Experience in configuring mobile and satellite devices, providing first and second-level user support via Microsoft tools, and document editing is also necessary. Ability to work effectively in demanding environments is essential.
