Job Purpose
The Anti-Human Trafficking Associate will support UNODC's initiatives in Mexico aimed at preventing and combating human trafficking. This role involves contributing to technical assistance efforts for the Mexican government to enhance its capabilities in fighting TIP and supporting victims. The associate will work within the framework of the Blue Heart Campaign and relevant UN conventions. A key aspect of the role is fostering collaboration with the private sector and civil society to develop integrated programs and public policies. The position offers an opportunity to join a knowledgeable team in Mexico City dedicated to addressing TIP through strategic partnerships and proactive engagement.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the UNODC Head of Office, the UN Volunteer will support the preparation of technical materials and presentations for various audiences. Responsibilities include drafting concept notes and briefing papers for donors and counterparts, and participating in meetings with key stakeholders such as government institutions, civil society organizations (CSOs), and the private sector. The associate will assist in identifying new partners and potential donors, especially within private sector industries relevant to potential victims. Support will be provided for organizing training workshops and activities. The role involves accompanying UNODC staff to meetings, assisting in drafting minutes, and following up on agreements. Participation in UN inter-agency meetings on human trafficking and related crimes is also expected. An initial work plan will be developed and reviewed regularly with the supervisor.
Work Experience
While no specific prior experience is mandated, a demonstrated interest or up to two years of experience in Relationship Building is highly desirable for identifying and aligning partners. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with diverse stakeholders and team members. Adaptability, innovation, effective oral and written communication, and research skills are valued. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is also considered beneficial. Previous volunteer experience or cross-cultural exposure is an advantage.
