Organizational Context
UNICEF operates in challenging environments globally to support disadvantaged children and adolescents, advocating for their rights. In Burkina Faso, UNICEF's current country program, extended until December 2026, aligns with the government's development plan. A new four-year country program is being prepared for 2027-2030. The Nutrition section is vital, supporting the government in combating malnutrition through technical and financial assistance, and leading stakeholder coordination. Ensuring a consistent supply of quality nutrition inputs, essential medicines, and equipment is critical for program success.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF's Nutrition section in Burkina Faso by strengthening the supply chain management of nutritional inputs. The assignment aims to ensure the continuous availability of essential nutrition supplies, medicines, and equipment at service delivery points, from national levels down to the last mile. The volunteer will contribute to improving program effectiveness and decision-making by enhancing data collection, compilation, and analysis related to the supply chain. This involves collaborating with government health departments and partners to optimize quantification, distribution, and monitoring of supplies, ultimately contributing to the achievement of the nutrition program's objectives in both development and emergency contexts.
Responsibilities
The Volunteer will support the Nutrition Specialist in managing the supply chain for nutritional inputs. Key responsibilities include reviewing information flow between the Ministry of Health departments, UNICEF, and other partners to ensure efficient supply and prevent stock-outs. This involves collecting, compiling, and analyzing data on the distribution and consumption of nutritional inputs and essential medicines to optimize their use and minimize waste. The role also entails contributing to the development of key performance indicator dashboards and visual reports. The Volunteer will participate in data quality control, supply chain reviews, and monitoring activities, including end-user monitoring. Capacity building of district-level input managers on stock management is a crucial aspect. Additionally, the Volunteer will support the National Directorate of Nutrition and Ministry of Health services in improving the quality of weekly bulletins for supply chain actors and assist in evaluating and rehabilitating health district depots.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of professional experience in logistics, supply chain management, or stock management at national or international levels. Experience in developing dashboards and working within the UN system or other international development organizations is desirable. Proficiency in IT tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI) and excellent written and oral communication skills in French are essential. Familiarity with database management is also beneficial.
Skills
Key competencies include responsibility, adaptability, flexibility, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organization, professionalism, and self-management. Expertise in Administration, Logistics and Inventory, and Community Development is required. Strong IT skills, excellent communication and reporting abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in a multicultural team are also important.
