Job Purpose
This role supports the Adi Yuva programme, an initiative by the United Nations in India and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, aimed at empowering youth from tribal communities. The programme seeks to address identified gaps in skills, leadership, and systemic support by providing mentorship and training to enhance employment opportunities in the development sector. The National UN Specialist Volunteer will contribute to the health and well-being programme management, focusing on planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The objective is to ensure effective programme support and management for age-appropriate, gender-sensitive, and socially inclusive information and services, thereby fostering a more inclusive UN System in India and advancing the potential of tribal youth.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will provide strategic, technical, and programmatic support to strengthen the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) ecosystem, focusing on research, documentation, capacity building, and knowledge management for tribal development. Responsibilities include coordinating with TRIs, Centres of Excellence (CoEs), and research organizations; reviewing and documenting research studies and interventions; and identifying priority research themes related to tribal development, livelihoods, education, health, and culture. The role involves assisting in the preparation of concept notes, project proposals, reports, and policy briefs, and supporting evidence-based policy formulation and dissemination of research findings. Additionally, the UNV will assist in data collection, analysis, monitoring, and reporting, facilitate workshops and capacity-building programs, and support initiatives for preserving tribal culture, heritage, and languages. The role also includes developing communication materials, providing technical feedback to State TRIs and CoEs, contributing to monitoring frameworks, and supporting collaborations with national and international institutions. Any other assigned programme, coordination, research, documentation, monitoring, or administrative tasks will also be undertaken.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated interest in the socio-economic development of tribal youth, with an understanding of tribal issues, is essential. Prior experience in programme implementation and management is required. Experience in tribal development, youth leadership, or public health projects is an asset. Strong teamwork, communication, analytical, organizing, and planning skills are necessary. Resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgment, and tact are valued. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to challenging environments are important.
