The 21st Century African Youth Movement (AYM) is establishing a continent-wide network of Youth Development Correspondents to disseminate information on youth policies, opportunities, and development initiatives across Africa. The assignment supports the African Lecture Series and the Voices of the Emerging Africa platform, ensuring high-quality educational resources.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for enhancing the quality, accuracy, and educational value of content produced by Youth Development Correspondents across Africa. The volunteer will review and edit articles, scripts, and educational materials for the African Lecture Series and the Voices of the Emerging Africa platform. By ensuring content is clear, accurate, and engaging, the volunteer contributes to building a reliable knowledge base. This platform empowers African youth with information vital for improving employment prospects, fostering entrepreneurship, advancing education, strengthening leadership skills, and promoting civic engagement, ultimately supporting their development and participation.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will provide editorial support for content submitted by Youth Development Correspondents across Africa, reviewing articles, scripts, policy summaries, briefing notes, and educational materials prior to publication. Key duties include assessing written content for grammar, clarity, and structure; enhancing readability and audience engagement; ensuring adherence to editorial guidelines; verifying citations and references; identifying factual inconsistencies; and offering constructive feedback to contributors. The role also involves assisting in the development of content templates and style guides, collaborating with content creators and management, and preparing materials for digital publication. Deliverables include edited articles, reviewed scripts, editorial feedback reports, content quality guidelines, and publication readiness assessments.
Work Experience
Required experience includes strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with an excellent command of written English. Candidates should be able to review and improve content structure and readability, possess experience editing reports, articles, or educational materials, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. The ability to verify information, identify inconsistencies, and provide constructive feedback to diverse contributors is essential. Experience in journalism, publishing, communications, education, public policy, international development, or research is preferred.
Skills
Essential skills include strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, with an excellent command of written English.
