Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a UN specialized agency dedicated to achieving food security and promoting sustainable agriculture, forestry, and fisheries worldwide. In Nepal, FAO collaborates with government entities at all levels to foster inclusive, climate-resilient development in agriculture, forestry, land use, and livelihoods. FAO Nepal is expanding its provincial presence to enhance coordination and support for field operations, establishing offices in Koshi (Biratnagar) and Sudurpaschim (Dhangadhi) to improve engagement and program delivery.
Job Purpose
The Programme Assistant will support FAO's provincial operations in Nepal, focusing on climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, and livelihood projects. This role involves facilitating coordination between FAO's Country Office and provincial/local counterparts, including government ministries and stakeholders. The assistant will provide hands-on support for project implementation, ensuring timely execution of activities and mobilization of participants. Key contributions include maintaining project trackers, managing evidence for monitoring and reporting, and documenting project impacts and visibility. The position aims to strengthen FAO's on-the-ground presence and effectiveness in delivering sustainable development initiatives across Madhesh, Koshi, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant will be responsible for provincial coordination and partnership building, documenting regular communication between FAO and local counterparts, and supporting UN inter-agency coordination to ensure smooth project delivery. They will provide direct implementation support for FAO projects by coordinating with government partners, following up on planned activities, and mobilizing stakeholders for timely execution across specified provinces. A key duty involves maintaining and updating provincial databases and trackers, organizing supporting evidence through digital filing systems to enhance traceability and audit readiness. Additionally, the assistant will collect field-level data and assist in preparing impact and visibility materials, such as photos and key results, to support evidence-based communication and reporting for FAO projects.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of required experience and 2 years of relevant experience is needed. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, email, and internet is essential. Familiarity with databases and digital filing systems is advantageous. Experience in climate resilience, sustainable natural resource management, or volunteerism is desirable. Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali are preferred, along with accuracy in document preparation and record-keeping.
