Job Purpose
This role supports IOM Venezuela by continuously monitoring the national information landscape, with a specific focus on migration-related news and narratives. The Online Volunteer will help anticipate reputational risks, identify key trends affecting human mobility, and analyze the visibility of IOM's actions. The insights gathered will provide essential input for technical and management teams, strengthening the organization's communication response capabilities, especially in sensitive situations. This contribution is vital for enhancing strategic decision-making, risk management, and overall communication effectiveness within the Venezuelan context.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will conduct daily monitoring of national, regional, and international media, as well as social networks, to identify news, trends, and mentions related to migration, temporary shelter, protection, governance, health, WASH, and IOM activities in key Venezuelan states. Support will also be provided to UN System inter-agency communication groups for monitoring critical news. Key deliverables include a daily bulletin (Monday-Friday) with news headlines, summaries, and links; daily social media monitoring focusing on IOM mentions and migration topics; and immediate alerts for critical issues concerning mobility, protection risks, or sensitive IOM mentions. This role directly contributes to strengthening the organization's decision-making, strategic communication, and risk management.
Work Experience
Experience in monitoring digital tools, social media, and information verification is necessary. Familiarity with keyword usage and thematic classification methodologies is beneficial. The candidate must demonstrate discipline in meeting deadlines and collaborating effectively within a remote team.
Skills
Key skills include strong analytical abilities for information monitoring and summarization, proficiency with digital monitoring tools and social media platforms, and expertise in information verification. Advanced Spanish language proficiency is essential. The role requires a disciplined approach to work and the ability to coordinate effectively in a remote setting.
