Organizational Context
UNFPA has been active in Nicaragua since 1974, focusing on integrating population dynamics, youth, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence into public policies. While progress has been made in areas like reducing maternal mortality and incorporating reproductive rights, significant challenges persist, notably a high adolescent pregnancy rate. UNFPA works to enhance the provision of quality maternal and newborn care, comprehensive sexuality education, and initiatives to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.
Job Purpose
The United Nations Volunteer will support the UNFPA Nicaragua country program by assisting in the implementation of administrative and financial processes. Working under the supervision of the GBV-CSE Program Analyst, the role involves ensuring efficient administrative operations, monitoring financial expenditures, and organizing program activities. This contribution is crucial for advancing efforts to prevent teenage pregnancy, early marriage, and gender-based violence, supporting the overall objectives of the UNFPA program in Nicaragua.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive administrative and financial support for program activities. This includes tracking and verifying expenditures from implementing partners, reviewing financial reports and invoices, and supporting accountability processes. The role also involves assisting with procurement, including preparing requests, comparing quotations, and following up with suppliers. Additionally, responsibilities include preparing payment requests, offering logistical support for workshops and events, and maintaining organized records of administrative and financial transactions. Travel arrangements and other program-related administrative tasks are also part of the scope.
Work Experience
One month of relevant experience is required. Demonstrated interest or experience (up to three years) in supporting operational processes like procurement, service provider coordination, and basic financial follow-up is desirable. Experience in preparing routine administrative or financial reports is an asset.
Skills
Key competencies include organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple administrative tasks efficiently, and proficiency with standard digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Drive/OneDrive). The role requires the ability to maintain organized records and collaborate effectively with teams and external partners. Expertise in Administration, Economics, Finance, and Procurement is also noted.
