Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is mandated to assist Member States in combating illicit drugs, crime, and terrorism. Job Purpose
The Programme Associate will support UNODC's efforts in Eastern Africa, contributing to the implementation of the Regional Framework for Eastern Africa 2024-2030. Working under the direct supervision of the Deputy Representative, the associate will assist in program monitoring, reporting, and support activities. This includes developing documentation, organizing meetings, collecting data, and conducting research to aid programming and fundraising. The role also involves supporting the organization of events and contributing to communications and visibility efforts by developing knowledge products and online content. The aim is to strengthen national capacities and work collaboratively with governments and civil society to address evolving crime and security challenges across the region.
Responsibilities
The Programme Associate will support program monitoring and reporting by assisting in the development and review of documentation such as talking points, briefing notes, concept notes, and progress reports. Responsibilities include organizing meetings and drafting minutes, preparing necessary documents for senior management missions, and supporting data collection for monitoring, reporting, and evaluation purposes. The role also involves conducting research to support programming and fundraising efforts. Additionally, the associate will provide administrative and other support to specific programs and projects under the UNODC Regional Framework for Eastern Africa and assist in organizing conferences, seminars, and training courses. A key function will be supporting the implementation of the communications and visibility plan, including the development of knowledge products, web stories, social media posts, and other visibility materials, as well as supporting donor outreach and disseminating information on UNODC's results.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of relevant experience is required. Demonstrated interest or experience (up to 3 years) in international relations, law, politics, economics, criminology, data analytics, or communications, advocacy, and outreach is desirable. Proficiency in computer literacy and excellent oral and writing skills are essential.
