The Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) is a UNDP Global Policy Centre established in 2011. It partners with the private sector and foundations to drive development through research, advocacy, and partnership brokering. The Center focuses on inclusive business, skills development, impact investing, and resilience. It supports UNDP's global work and offices worldwide, operating within the framework of promoting private sector engagement for sustainable development.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Future Tech Leaders (FTL) AI4Climate Bootcamp and related training sessions by providing crucial Arabic-English language assistance. The Online Volunteer will help bridge communication gaps between participants and facilitators, ensuring all attendees can understand course content, instructions, and discussions. The aim is to foster an inclusive and effective learning environment where language barriers do not hinder engagement or comprehension. This support is ad hoc and requested as needed, not full simultaneous interpretation, facilitating smoother interactions and a more supportive atmosphere for all participants.
Responsibilities
Provide ad hoc Arabic-English language support during selected online AI4Climate training sessions as requested by the programme team. Assist participants and facilitators by clarifying course content and discussions to overcome language barriers. Help participants understand instructions, activities, and key messages to ensure full engagement. Facilitate communication between trainers, mentors, and participants when language differences arise. Respond to language-related questions in the chat and offer basic communication troubleshooting during sessions. Contribute to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for a diverse group of participants. This role focuses on facilitating understanding and interaction, not full session interpretation.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in Arabic-English translation, interpretation, language support, or multilingual facilitation is required. Experience supporting training programs, workshops, or educational initiatives is considered an asset. Prior involvement with development organizations, UN entities, NGOs, or volunteer programs is desirable.
Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Arabic and English are essential. The ability to clearly convey complex ideas and support effective interaction among diverse participants is crucial. A demonstrated interest in digital skills, AI, climate action, entrepreneurship, youth development, or community engagement is beneficial. Fluency in Turkish is desirable.
