Organizational Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes volunteerism for peace and development globally. UNV advocates for volunteerism, encourages its integration into development programming, and mobilizes volunteers. In Malawi, UNV and Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) are jointly implementing a social media advocacy campaign for the International Year of Volunteers (IVY). This campaign, from June to November 2026, aims to highlight volunteerism's role in achieving national development goals, focusing on wellbeing, legal frameworks, and inclusive management.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UNV and VSO International Year of Volunteers (IVY) social media advocacy campaign in Malawi. The primary purpose is to drive digital awareness and promote volunteerism's contribution to national development goals. Online volunteers will disseminate campaign materials, graphics, and key messages across social media platforms to generate public interest and digital engagement. The assignment aims to raise awareness about the campaign, its associated webinars, and the broader significance of volunteerism both within Malawi and internationally, aligning with the GIVE framework and Global Volunteering Standard.
Responsibilities
Online volunteers will disseminate pre-approved IVY campaign materials, graphics, and key messages across various social media platforms. Their main duty is to raise awareness about the campaign, its webinars, and the importance of volunteerism in Malawi and globally. All promotional materials, a content toolkit, and a posting schedule will be provided by the campaign team. Volunteers must exclusively use the provided materials and are not permitted to alter messaging or redesign graphics. They should also refrain from engaging in debates or political discussions on behalf of UNV, VSO, or their partners. The goal is to generate widespread public interest and digital engagement nationally and globally.
Work Experience
Candidates are expected to be highly active on social media platforms (e.g., X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) and possess a basic understanding of digital networking and online promotion. Prior experience in online advocacy or supporting NGO campaigns is considered an asset, though not strictly required.
Skills
Key skills include strong social media activity and a basic understanding of digital networking and online promotion. A strong interest in volunteerism, international development, and advocacy is highly desirable. Fluency in English is required. Volunteers must adhere strictly to provided materials and avoid unauthorized alterations or political engagement.
