Organizational Context
Simuka Africa Youth Association, established in 2006 in Zimbabwe, is a charitable organization addressing poverty, gender-based violence, and limited educational access for at-risk youth and families. The organization focuses on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1-6, aiming to empower youth with tools for a better future, career development, and the elimination of child marriage. Their 34 Gallery Initiative uses art to promote mental well-being and gender equality.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to amplify Simuka Africa Youth Association's online presence through the 34 Gallery Initiative, focusing on SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 5 (Gender Equality). The role involves creating and disseminating engaging content, including artwork, graphics, and poetry, to raise awareness about mental health, art therapy, and gender equality. The initiative seeks to foster positive mental health conversations, support female artists, and encourage self-care and empowerment among global populations, particularly women and girls vulnerable to economic hardship and negative cultural norms.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute a comprehensive online creative arts campaign using diverse artistic mediums to engage and educate the target audience. Generate publicity for artwork from Open Call participants, focusing on mental health awareness, self-care, art therapy, and child development. Create content for social media platforms (Twitter-X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Facebook, YouTube), including short videos for YouTube and Instagram Reels. Support the launch of a Mentorship Outreach Program for individuals aged 55+. Contribute creative content based on Art Therapy Open Call themes, focusing on heart-based content and mental health advocacy. Highlight the struggles and successes of global females through art, supporting female artisans and outreach projects.
Work Experience
Experience in creative fields, arts, or art history is highly encouraged. Experience supervising youth-led or creative programs is desirable. Backgrounds in Psychology, Mental Health, Art Therapy, Social Work, Social Science, or Education are beneficial. Experience with fundraising, publicity, public relations, and online campaigns is advantageous. Proficiency in social media management and graphic design (Canva, Adobe) is required.
Skills
Strong communication and administrative skills. Expertise in social media campaigns and graphic design using tools like Canva and Adobe. Experience in creative writing, editing, and publishing is needed for some roles. Videography experience is in high demand. Basic technical skills for AI Arts volunteer roles include Python, machine learning concepts, data analysis, and AI frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), or familiarity with AI tools like Claude, Gemini, Midjourney, and ChatGPT. Fluency in English is required; Shona is desirable.
