Translation of capacity building materials from English to Portuguese (Brazil)

Organizational Context

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes peace and development globally through volunteerism. Administered by UNDP, UNV integrates motivated volunteers into development initiatives and champions the value of volunteerism. UNV Brazil, as part of its Capacity Development and Learning Facility (CDLF), organizes workshops to enhance UN Volunteers' skills, such as effective communication, crucial for diverse project environments like the PISTA project.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNV Brazil's capacity building efforts by translating essential communication training materials from English to Brazilian Portuguese. The objective is to ensure these materials are linguistically accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate for local UN Volunteers. The translation will cover various documents including presentations, facilitators' guides, and activity handouts, contributing to the high-quality delivery of the Effective Communication workshop and enhancing the skills of UN Volunteers within the PISTA project.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to translate communication training materials from English to Brazilian Portuguese, ensuring linguistic accuracy, clarity, and natural phrasing. This includes translating presentations, facilitators' guides, and activity handouts to meet high-quality standards for UNV's capacity building initiatives. The role requires meticulous attention to detail to maintain consistency and accuracy across all translated documents. Additionally, the volunteer must be able to work independently, manage time effectively, and communicate any questions or require clarifications from the UNV team to ensure the final translated products are fit for purpose.

Work Experience

Experience in translation, either professional or volunteer, is essential. Previous experience translating materials for international organizations, NGOs, or academic institutions is desirable. The role requires high attention to detail and the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
