Job Purpose
The Communications Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the NextGen.Ke programme's communication and outreach efforts. The primary purpose of this assignment is to ensure that credible information about the programme is disseminated effectively to build public understanding and trust. This involves attracting eligible young people to apply and keeping stakeholders informed of progress and results. The role is essential for the programme's credibility, requiring the production and dissemination of clear, accurate, and engaging content across all 47 counties, including marginalized ASAL regions, and safeguarding the programme's reputation against misinformation.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Communications, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for content production, including drafting social media posts, articles, success stories, newsletters, and basic graphics in accessible language. They will support social media management by scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to routine queries. The role involves assisting with outreach activities and events to encourage youth participation, especially from ASAL counties. Story gathering, including collecting beneficiary testimonials with consent, is key to illustrating programme impact. The assistant will also help prepare media materials, briefing notes, and presentations, maintain a content library, monitor media mentions, flag misinformation, and ensure brand consistency with UNDP and programme standards. Deliverables include a content calendar, published content, a story bank, and engagement reports.
Work Experience
No prior experience is strictly required. However, practical experience in communications, content creation, social media management, or journalism is desirable. Proficiency in English and Kiswahili writing and editing, familiarity with social media platforms, and basic competence with design tools like Canva are advantageous. Photography or short-video skills are a plus.
