Organizational Context

UNICEF's mission is to promote the rights of every child, focusing on equity for the most disadvantaged. In India, the UN is supporting the Adi Yuva Fellowship to empower tribal and marginalized youth. This initiative aligns with Youth2030 and aims to place youth in impactful roles. The UN Volunteer will contribute to integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate resilience into development efforts for vulnerable tribal communities, linking with national missions like PM-JANMAN.

Job Purpose

This role supports the Adi Yuva Fellowship initiative in Chhattisgarh, India, by coordinating UN agency interventions in tribal areas with national priorities, particularly for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and tribal affairs. The UN Volunteer will ensure DRR and climate resilience actions are integrated into development efforts for vulnerable tribal communities, aligning with the Sendai Framework and PM-JANMAN. The position aims to bridge gaps in capacity and representation for tribal youth, fostering inclusive development and contributing to SDGs 1, 4, 10, 11, and 13. The volunteer will gain experience in policy coordination, community-led development, and resilience building.

Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer will provide programmatic support and coordination for tribal affairs and inclusive development by mapping UNICEF and UN agency interventions, identifying gaps, and ensuring culturally sensitive programs. Responsibilities include liaising with tribal communities and local organizations, documenting programming in conflict areas, and assessing PVTG access to social protection. The role involves inter-agency coordination for tribal development and DRR, integrating DRR principles into youth and tribal programming, and supporting initiatives like the Chief Minister School Safety Program. Additionally, the volunteer will map traditional knowledge related to disaster preparedness, support youth engagement and capacity building on DRR and climate action, and contribute to knowledge management and reporting. Tasks also include promoting volunteerism, acting as a peer support, and undertaking field visits.

Work Experience

A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with 1 year of relevant experience being desirable. Experience in projects related to disaster management, tribal/youth development, or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is preferred. A demonstrated interest in DRR, tribal, youth, and social development issues, along with an understanding of SDGs and youth-related challenges, is beneficial.
