Organizational Context
UNICEF's mission is to promote the rights of every child, focusing on equity for the most disadvantaged. In India, the UN is supporting the Adi Yuva Fellowship to mentor and train tribal and marginalized youth for impactful roles. This initiative aligns with the "Leave No One Behind" agenda and the Youth2030 strategy, aiming to build an inclusive future workforce. The role in Chhattisgarh is crucial for integrating Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate resilience into development efforts for vulnerable tribal communities, linking with national missions like PM-JANMAN.

The position aims to translate high-level commitments into tangible actions, advancing SDGs related to poverty, education, inequality, sustainable communities, and climate action. The volunteer will gain significant experience in policy coordination, community-led development, and resilience building.
Responsibilities

The role involves liaising with tribal leaders and local organizations, assessing the situation of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), and supporting documentation of programming in conflict areas. The assistant will also facilitate inter-agency coordination meetings, integrate DRR principles into youth and tribal programming, and support the implementation of the Chief Minister School Safety Program. Additionally, the role involves mapping traditional knowledge related to environmental conservation and disaster preparedness, supporting youth engagement through training and facilitating youth-led initiatives, and contributing to knowledge management and reporting. UNV mandate tasks include learning about volunteerism, community integration, advocacy, and peer support.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of experience is required, with 1 year of relevant experience being desirable. Experience working on projects related to disaster management, tribal/youth development, or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is beneficial. A demonstrated interest in DRR, tribal, youth, and social development issues, along with an understanding of SDGs, is desirable. Familiarity with youth-related challenges is an asset. This position is exclusively open to candidates from Scheduled Tribe communities.
