Organizational Context

The UN Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team in Uzbekistan, coordinating efforts with government, civil society, and the private sector to achieve sustainable development objectives. The Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) supports the UN Country Team in implementing and monitoring the UN Cooperation Framework and Agenda 2030. Key RCO functions include strategic planning, economics, partnerships, data management, and communications. This role supports the RCO's communications and advocacy efforts.

Job Purpose

This online volunteer assignment aims to enhance public awareness of the United Nations' activities in Uzbekistan and promote engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The volunteer will achieve this by creating and translating accessible and compelling social media content in Uzbek. The primary contribution will be to support the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Uzbekistan by developing engaging posts for platforms like Telegram and Instagram, thereby increasing visibility of the UN's work, the SDGs, and the role of youth in sustainable development. This role is crucial for bridging communication gaps and fostering a stronger connection with the Uzbek-speaking audience.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteer will support the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Uzbekistan by preparing social media content in Uzbek. Key duties include drafting 2-3 text-based posts weekly for the UN Uzbekistan Telegram channel and 1-2 social media posts weekly for the UN Uzbekistan Instagram page. Additionally, the volunteer will prepare one 50-100 word summary/post per week in Uzbek, based on the UN Secretary-General's speeches and statements. All source materials, key messages, and editorial guidance will be provided by the UN Resident Coordinator Office. The role focuses on raising awareness about the UN's work, the SDGs, and youth involvement in sustainable development.

Work Experience

While no formal work experience is strictly required, candidates with experience in social media content creation and copywriting are highly desirable. Experience in adapting content for digital platforms like Telegram and Instagram, and familiarity with social media management and content planning are beneficial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is expected, and experience with tools like Canva is a plus.

Skills

Essential skills include strong written communication in Uzbek, the ability to draft clear and engaging content for social media, and experience adapting content for different digital platforms. Familiarity with social media management and content planning is important. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and experience with Canva or similar tools is desirable. Fluency in English and Russian (working knowledge) is also required.
