Job Purpose
This assignment aims to provide crucial technical and administrative support for the design and implementation of environmental projects within the UNEP Caribbean component of the Zero Waste in the Caribbean Project. The role will enhance project effectiveness, foster stakeholder collaboration, and strengthen institutional capacity to deliver sustainable environmental solutions across the region. By contributing to research, documentation, monitoring, data management, and technical coordination, the volunteer will directly support the achievement of UNEP's strategic goals and promote responsible consumption and production, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 12.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Head of the Caribbean Sub-Regional Office and the Regional Coordinator on Chemicals and Pollution, and supervised by the Regional Project Coordinator and Project Administrative Assistant, the volunteer will undertake tasks in one of four areas. This includes conducting background research on waste management and circular economy models, assisting in preparing project documents, reports, and presentations, and supporting the development of concept notes by gathering data and drafting narrative sections. Additionally, responsibilities involve monitoring project implementation, assisting in report preparation, maintaining and analyzing project databases, and liaising with consultants to track deliverables and review technical reports. The role also includes supporting event coordination, documentation, and logistical planning.
Work Experience
A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required. Desirable experience includes developing project documents, concept notes, or proposals, particularly within international or regional organizations. Experience in conducting assessments, compiling and analyzing data, and synthesizing findings is also beneficial. Familiarity with project monitoring, reporting, and evaluating programme performance is advantageous.
Skills
Required skills include strong written and verbal communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Desirable skills include knowledge of project management or data analysis tools, and an understanding of key environmental and sustainable development issues in the Caribbean region. Fluency in English is required, with working knowledge of Spanish being desirable.
