Job Purpose
This assignment supports the UNDP's 'eMonitor+' tool for monitoring the digital ecosystem in Colombia. The volunteer will annotate and classify digital content to identify hate speech, toxic communication, and gender-based violence, particularly in the lead-up to the 2026 legislative and presidential elections. The systematic monitoring will generate evidence to inform decision-making, prevent violence, and support institutional actions protecting human rights and ensuring violence-free political participation, especially for women and marginalized groups. The goal is to enhance democratic quality by addressing online threats.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will annotate and classify digital publications collected via the eMonitor+ tool to identify hate speech, toxic communication, and gender-based violence on digital media and social networks. This task is crucial for the context of the 2026 Colombian elections. Responsibilities include reviewing pre-collected publications, applying defined criteria and categories for classification, and participating in training on the tool and annotation guidelines. Tasks will be distributed to ensure balanced workload and comparable results. Expected outputs include annotated databases serving as input for analysis, early warnings, and prevention/advocacy actions.
Work Experience
Desirable experience in media monitoring, content analysis, or discourse analysis. Familiarity with human rights, gender equality, political participation, electoral processes, or gender-based violence is also preferred. Ability to follow methodological guidelines and work autonomously in a virtual environment is essential.
Skills
Proficiency in Spanish (native level). Ability to follow methodological guidelines and work autonomously in virtual environments. Desirable skills include experience in media monitoring, content analysis, discourse analysis, and knowledge/interest in human rights, gender equality, political participation, electoral processes, and gender-based violence.
