External Relations Specialist
Organizational Context

Job Purpose
The External Relations Specialist will contribute to UNHCR's protection and solutions agenda in Colombia by enhancing public information, advocacy, and resource mobilization efforts. This role involves crafting and editing external communications, supporting donor reporting and visibility, and fostering partnerships with diverse stakeholders including government, UN agencies, NGOs, the diplomatic community, private sector, and media. The Specialist will work within a collaborative team, generating compelling narratives and gaining insights into UNHCR's operations in a high-profile context, with opportunities for strategic discussions and field visits.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the External Relations Unit under the Senior External Relations Officer's supervision. Key tasks include serving as a focal point for governmental donors, assisting with funding submissions, and drafting interim and final reports. The role involves monitoring developments related to the Resource Mobilization Project Strategy, preparing regular reports (donor updates, situational reports, briefing notes), and assisting in the preparation of materials for meetings and missions. Additionally, the Volunteer will contribute to developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, supporting the organization of missions for high-level visitors, and assisting with public information activities to enhance visibility. The External Relations Unit manages engagement with governments, donors, organizations, media, and the public to raise awareness, mobilize resources, build partnerships, and advocate for refugee-responsive policies.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of relevant experience in humanitarian, development, or refugee protection work, with a focus on donor engagement, reporting, and coordination. Experience in international cooperation, donor relations, communications, and stakeholder management is essential. Familiarity with working in multicultural environments is also required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary, with reporting tools or information management systems being an asset.

Strong written communication skills in English and Spanish, with the ability to draft clear reports and summaries. Excellent organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail. Ability to collect, consolidate, and synthesize information effectively. Strong interpersonal skills for collaborative work in diverse teams. Proactive and learning-oriented attitude.
