Organizational Context

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has been operating in Peru since 1956, focusing on eradicating hunger and malnutrition by promoting safe and nutritious food, reducing poverty, and fostering socio-economic development through rural development and sustainable resource management. The National Youth Chapter of the World Food Forum (WFF) in Peru, supported by FAO, empowers youth to transform agri-food systems towards sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience, encouraging their participation in policy-making and territorial action amidst challenges like climate change and food demand.

Job Purpose

This role supports the strengthening of the governance of the National Youth Chapter of the World Food Forum (WFF) in Peru, including territorial articulation via the Amazonian Sub-Chapter. The position also contributes to the design and implementation of the food loss and waste (FLW) agenda within the Multisectoral Commission for Food and Nutritional Security (COMSAN), with FAO's guidance. The objective is to enhance organizational structure, optimize coordination, ensure sustainability, and increase the chapter's influence in decision-making spaces. Additionally, it aims to decentralize participation, integrate intercultural approaches, and strengthen FLW reduction actions in the Peruvian Amazon, promoting evidence-based decision-making and inter-sectoral coordination.

Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer Associate in Food Systems will provide technical and operational support to strengthen the governance of the National Youth Chapter of the World Food Forum (WFF) in Peru. This includes territorial articulation through the Amazonian Sub-Chapter and contributing to the design and implementation of the food loss and waste (FLW) agenda within the Multisectoral Commission for Food and Nutritional Security (COMSAN). Key tasks involve supporting the development and adjustment of management instruments (regulations, organizational structure), coordinating chapter meetings, systematizing progress, and preparing technical reports. The role requires strengthening articulation with institutional actors and allies, and contributing to youth participation strategies. Support will also be provided to the National Coordination Committee, including technical and logistical assistance for meetings, preparing working documents, and tracking agreements. For the Amazonian Sub-Chapter, tasks include identifying youth actors, supporting participatory spaces, drafting foundational documents, and promoting territorial and intercultural approaches. Support to COMSAN involves assisting in the design and implementation of the FLW agenda, contributing to inter-sectoral articulation, and systematizing information and best practices.

Work Experience

Requires at least one year of prior experience (academic, professional, or volunteer) in youth participation, community development, or territorial development initiatives. Experience in supporting or facilitating participatory processes (meetings, workshops, multi-actor dialogues) is needed. Experience in preparing technical documents, reports, minutes, or coordination tools is highly valued. Knowledge of youth networks, civil society organizations, or collaborative platforms is an advantage. Prior residency in Peru is required.
