Job Purpose
This assignment supports the 'School as a Center of Development' initiative in the Dominican Republic, which aims to transform public schools into comprehensive platforms for well-being, social cohesion, and local progress. This involves integrating educational, social, and health services, including the School Health Programme, to strengthen public institutions' capacity for intersectoral policy implementation. The role provides technical support to public institutions responsible for this approach, assisting with planning, inter-institutional coordination, and monitoring of educational and social initiatives. The purpose is to ensure high standards of management, quality, and impact, identify good practices, strengthen institutional capacities, and promote innovative, inclusive approaches. This consolidates schools as engines of community development and the Ministry of Public Health as a key guarantor of student and community well-being.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Education Portfolio Coordinator, the UN Volunteer will support the Education Portfolio in monitoring and follow-up of programmes and projects, ensuring their alignment with objectives and expected outcomes. A key duty is to contribute to the integration of gender, inclusion, and human rights approaches across all ongoing programmes and projects, promoting equitable and inclusive development. The role involves establishing and maintaining a strong level of cooperation with all stakeholders involved in project and initiative development, including civil society, government, and international agencies. The volunteer will also participate actively in activities and initiatives of the education sector, including those led by educational institutions, the United Nations System, civil society, and the private sector, coordinated through UNDP. Furthermore, the assignment includes supporting the Portfolio in the design and implementation of strategic partnership strategies that strengthen collaboration, promoting the integration of complementary approaches such as care and social protection policies, health education, prevention, and comprehensive well-being in the school environment. Finally, the volunteer will contribute to the generation of knowledge products related to school health and educational development, including technical notes, systematizations, analytical inputs, and documentation of good practices that support decision-making, institutional learning, and programme scalability.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of relevant experience is required. Demonstrated interest or experience (up to 3 years) in educational projects, programmes, or initiatives is essential. Candidates should possess knowledge of gender and inclusion approaches. Experience or knowledge in integrating educational technologies and digital solutions to promote well-being, preventive health, and educational inclusion, facilitating equitable access to content, services, and resources in the school environment, is also necessary. Furthermore, knowledge or experience in active, inclusive, and student-centered methodologies aimed at meaningful learning, attention to diversity, and promotion of healthy habits is required.
