Job Purpose
This role supports UNDP Angola's Nature, Climate and Environment (NCE) Unit in addressing significant climate and environmental challenges, including land degradation, biodiversity loss, and climate vulnerability. The UN Volunteer will contribute to the implementation of projects focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, circular economy, and sustainable natural resource management. By assisting with project implementation, knowledge management, stakeholder engagement, and learning processes, the volunteer will play a key role in building resilience and fostering sustainable growth. This assignment offers an excellent opportunity for early-career professionals to gain practical experience in international development and environmental programming within the UN system.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the NCE Programme Specialist in various areas. Key responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of climate change and environmental projects, tracking activities, and contributing to work plans and progress reports. The role involves conducting research on environmental policies and sustainable development, and supporting the creation of knowledge products like briefs and case studies. Coordination with government counterparts and partners, including organizing meetings and workshops, is essential. The volunteer will also contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes, data compilation, and preparing inputs for UNDP corporate reporting. Additionally, the role supports communication efforts by assisting in the preparation of visibility materials and success stories, ensuring the effective dissemination of project results and partnerships.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 month of relevant experience is required. Demonstrated interest or experience (up to 3 years) in areas such as climate change, environmental sustainability, ecosystem restoration, carbon credits, circular economy, waste management, or community-based sustainable development initiatives is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and strong analytical, research, communication, and writing skills are also needed.
